Scocha

Scocha was our Tattoo headliner in 2008 and proved to be so popular that they just had to return.

"Scocha" pronounced Sco-Sha get their name from the surnames of the founding members Iain SCOtt and David CHApman. From Hawick in the Scottish Borders, the band is known for its quick witted banter and Scots humour which has endeared them to audiences internationally.

Phil Clayton provides the backbone to the band with a range of interesting basslines that keep the heart pumping. Alan Brydon provides strong musical and vocal input with a wide range of instruments from guitars to bagpipes, whilst Dougie Anderson keeps the whole band thumping along with the pulse of Scotland running through the sets.

With appearances in festivals and on TV on both sides of the Atlantic the band has built a loyal following of supporters in a wide sector of audiences. A Scocha concert is packed full of variety. Widely acclaimed new original songs, combine with traditional favourites brought to life in the Scocha style. From ballads to foot stompers, anthems to art, all heart felt and delivered with passion.

Scocha is traditional Scottish and Celtic music and song with a Rock n Roll attitude. You can stand or sit - but you wont sit still!

Now here they are back again “across the pond” to entertain at this year’s Glengarry Highland Games Friday Night Tattoo and Saturday in theTents.

The 2010 Brigadoons

The Brigadoons have been entertaining across Canada, the United States and on cruises in the Caribbean for over 25 years! People in the area have grown up with their music and their children are now doing the same. Denis Carr now leads the group and is the longest serving member; Luane Doyle , Reg Portieous , Dan Leroux keep the sound going with Ashley MacLeod and Pat Kelly added to the mix whenever they are available.

The Brigadoons are still performing that traditional sound and while new songs are being added to their repertoire , they still perform all of the old favourites: Glengarry My Home , The Martintown song , Pipers of Glengarry at the request of their loyal fans.

Hughie McDonell

Hughie McDonell grew up outside of Martintown, where his roots run deep. With a love for the music, he began to entertain around the Glen, and throughout the Ottawa and Seaway Valley. He later he moved to the Maritimes where he still lives and is busy playing as a singer songwriter. His latest CD “Keeping It All In Tune” was recorded in Cape Breton.  Hughie loves to come back home to Glengarry where he has grown a large fan base and play in the local clubs. He never tires of doing this; it keeps him in contact with family and friends. In return, he loves to have a new song or two for them when he gets back to play. Hughie is writing more than ever these days and hopes to record another CD soon.

Ashley MacLeod & Dave Gossage

Ashley & Dave have been playing together for four years and have been wowing audiences as an energetic acoustic duo.  Dave’s tasteful guitar rhythms’ compliment Ashley’s driving Scottish and Irish fiddle repertoire producing a pleasing sound.   They have toured several times throughout Europe with Canada’s Juno award winning group, ‘The Paperboys’.  Ashley and Dave are featured artists every Thursday night at Hurley’s Irish Pub, downtown Montreal.  Catch this duo in the Metcalfe Centre Friday afternoon and Saturday evening.

Bob and Ducky

Bob and Ducky have been performing at the Highland Games for the past 5 years. Their love of the traditional Celtic Music lends itself to an atmosphere of easy listening with a unique blend of the old Scottish and Irish favorites. Their style have made them a very popular duo in and around the area. They have recently released a CD featuring a wonderful version of "After All These Years", the title song of the recording.

The 2 Paddy's

Paddy Kelly and Paddy Maher started out in 1999. Since then, they have become a popular duo in celtic music. Both musicians are versatile, both vocally and instrumentally.

The 2 Paddy’s bring a more traditional flavour to their Irish music which include tunes, ballads and some of the usual old Irish favorites. Certainly a duo to relax to and enjoy.

Paddy Kelly plays fiddle, guitar and banjo, along with bodhran and penny whistle on occasion. After growing up in Ottawa, his first “professional” group was the Descendants, (not related to the current Irish Descendants). In 1982, he joined a group called the Brigadoons, a Scottish group from Glengarry County, and was with them until 1997. He currently resides in Glengarry County, Ontario, and continues to entertain crowds for all occasions.

Paddy has also had the privilege of being inducted to the Glengarry Celtic Music Hall of Fame in May of 2007.

Paddy Maher plays several instruments, which include guitar, bass and Irish bouzouki. He has played in a variety of groups – country to blues to rock – but always returns to his Irish roots. In the late 80’s and early 90’s he played as a member of the Ottawa based trio, Brandy N’Port.

Hadrian's Wall

Hadrian’s Wall borrows from traditional Celtic music, and creatively weaves it through their own unique blend of folk, blues, and pop/rock, to deliver a fresh and diverse palette of sound.

Since its inception in 1996, the band has been sure to maintain a close connection with their Celtic heritage. “Growing up in Glengarry meant that we heard just as much traditional music as we did modern music”, says singer and guitar player Neil Emberg. “Everyone knew and played a lot of old songs”. In fact, many of these traditional folk songs remain in their live set list, and several incarnations of them have ended up on Hadrian’s Wall recordings.

On stage this year, Hadrian's Wall will have members from the past and the present. Neil Emberg (Vocals, Guitar), Richard Irwin (Vocals, Drums), Terry O'Farrell (Vocals, Bass), Nelson MacPherson (Vocals, Accordion), Ashley MacLeod (Fiddle), Dave Gossage (Irish Flutes, Whistles, Harmonica, Electric Guitar), and other special guests.

New CD available taped live at the 2009 Glengarry Highland Games www.hadrianswall.net

Brandy 'N' Port

Brandy 'N' Port, the band, was born in April, 1987. The founding members are Alec Long, Paddy Maher and Danny Byrne. Today's line up is Alec Long, Al Wilmore, Seamus Costello & Danny Byrne. The band's philosophy is still the same as when it was formed, to play music that appeals to the masses while sticking to their Celtic roots. Whether it be a quaint Irish Pub or a dance for 3000 people Brandy 'N' Port has mastered the stage.

MacCulloch Dancers

The The MacCulloch School of Dancing was founded in 1955, under the direction of Rae MacCulloch.

Her first classes began with seven students in the kitchen of her sister Sybil Cameron's Glen Roy home. Together Rae, her husband, Alex and her sister, Sybil, laid the foundation for what was to become one of Glengarry's success stories.

Today, Rae's daughters, Heather Forbes and Deborah Wheeler, direct over 500 students in Martintown, Maxville and Navan.

In 1972, the MacCulloch Dancers took their first major trip when they toured Scotland with the Glengarry Pipe Band. Appearances on CFCF-TV in Montreal, CJOH in Ottawa, CBC in Halifax and the John Allan Cameron show followed.

On New Years Day of 1976, Glengarry dancers joined the Rose Bowl Parade in the streets of Pasadena, California. This tour also included performances in Disneyland, California and USA bicentennial celebrations in San Francisco. In October, bicentennial celebrations continued in Philadelphia and Washington.

Over the next 21 years the MacCulloch dancers have performed across the world. Recently they have represented Canada in Disney World, Florida, Idaho and Utah, USA, Puerto Rico and the Republic of China, Spain, Mexico, Belgium and Bulgaria. Other highlights include performances with the NAC orchestra in 2000 and the Nokia Brier in 2001.

The MacCulloch Dancers celebrate Glengarry's rich history through lively presentations of Scottish Folkloric and Canadian Step Dancing. Once again, they will bring their Scottish traditions back to Glengarry soil, as they perform 200 strong, in this year's Tattoo.
